Description: After students pick a career from the Marketing field, students will locate institutions that offer a degree or advanced certification for that choice. Students will then conduct research by collecting data from four post-secondary institutions (two-year/four-year/trade). Students will gather data, for in-state resident and non-resident, for tuition, fees, housing, and meal options for a 12-credit-hour semester. After data is collected, students will input their data into a spreadsheet to compare total cost for each institution. Each spreadsheet will be presented to the class and possibly to their parents/guardians.
Goals: The student will be able to: Determine career and educational requirements in a marketing field Complete basic research and gather data on post secondary institutions of their choice Create basic formulas Utilize spreadsheet features, such as: formatting cells, autosum, autofill Create and compare data in a chart Demonstrate effective oral presentation skills
Column Headings: The column heading for this project will be post-secondary institution's name and below date for in-state and out-of-state resident can be subdivided.
Row Headings: The row headings will include titles in column A such as, tuition cost per hour, fees, housing, meal plans and grand total. Column B will be used for the subdivided sections such as: under tuition per hour and 12 hours; under fees will be a list of the type of fees for each institution and the cost for the semester; under meal plans students need to choose one option that is offered; under housing students need to choose one option that is offered.
